A little update

A little update: I am currently preparing for the IELTS exam again. For international students, this exam is the first ticket to studying abroad.

I have taken the IELTS once before, but my certificate expired in 2024. I realized that my band score would not improve much over three years after my first attempt unless I actively worked on it. I got 6 overall before and most universities accept a minimum of 6.5 overall, with no skill below 6.

This time, however, I had experience in the exam room, and my target is higher. I believe I will achieve the score I am aiming for.

A little difference compared to last time is that this time I am preparing for the IELTS before applying for admission. I will have my English certificate ready to apply to any university. Previously, I received admission first and then had to take the IELTS in a short time to add it to my admission documents.

I remember many of my friends going through the same process, just as I am right now. One Vietnamese friend returned home, took the IELTS exam, and applied for PhD admission. Today, she is studying in Belgium. One of my Bangladeshi labmates took the exam in Seoul immediately after finishing his Master's program. Now, he is studying in the USA.

I reached out to some of my friends for help with my CV for PhD admission and received positive feedback on my profile and experience. I have also revised my CV many times based on their recommendations to make it clearer and more effective. 

Still as a reminder, when I play chess, only when I make a move will many doors open for me. Before reaching my goal, I know I must go through this time of preparation. There is no shortcut. I call this time a period of focus on myself and action.

A little more update: I haven't been paying attention to my relationship recently, as I've chosen to focus more on my career. Sometimes I think that maybe the right person is waiting for me somewhere, and that we will meet along the way as I continue my journey I truly hope for.

Chuyện của Ngân: a beautiful reminder of true love

Luckily, I finished my third book in March, keeping up with my goal of reading 12 books a year. As I mentioned in an earlier post , I decided to buy Chuyện của Ngân after reading her Blog about her love story. Her love story is as pink as the book's cover --- something she also affirms in her writing. She met the right person at the very beginning of her love journey. This book is a must-read for those who want to believe in love --- not the kind found on screens or fairy tales, but love that is real, simple, and full of small, beautiful moments. However, I noticed that the book doesn't explore the early stages of her love story as much as her blog did, which I personally found more captivating. Perhaps it's something she intended to keep special for her Blog. Instead, it tells scattered stories from her daily family life, including those about her childhood, her sisters, and her husband's family --- yet it remains engaging.
