I have always been like that. Strength and Enemy
Looking back, I realize that my behavior has remained consistent throughout my younger years. I see this as both a strength and a challenge. Through careful reflection, I believe I can find a way to turn my shortcomings into strengths.
1. Deep Focus
When I'm truly interested in something, I give it my full attention. If I don't fully understand a small detail, I keep searching until I find the answer or at least reach a point where I feel satisfied. My curiosity drives me to ask questions, even about things that most people might overlook or not consider important.
For example, if I have a question, I will explore all the books available in the library that mention it. If I find a YouTube channel that interests me, I can watch all its videos to gain a deeper understanding.
This ability is both a strength and a limitation.
For non-academic topics like love, life, human nature, I trust my analytical skills. I feel confident in my ability to grasp concepts deeply. I can analyze things in an original, comprehensive, and accurate way.
However, in academic settings, while I can answer my own questions, I sometimes get lost in unrelated details and lose focus on the core problem. I tend to ramble or take a long-winded approach, which isn't always an effective way to solve a problem. I realize that stepping back and looking at the bigger picture would be more beneficial. If I can pair my curiosity with strategic focus, I can refine my ability to make impactful discoveries without losing sight of the goal.
2. Strong Attachments
When I have a deep emotional connection to something, it is difficult for me to change how I feel. For example, I have always loved winter and the Chinese language, and these feelings remain unchanged over time. Rather than seeing this as rigid, I view it as proof that my passions are genuine and enduring. This deep attachment also fuels my motivation and persistence. While holding on to what I love is a strength, I must also remain open to new experiences and perspectives.
3. Curiosity Leading to Challenges
My curiosity often drives me toward ambitious and difficult challenges. While this can be rewarding, I realize that refining my focus and being more specific about my goals would help me work more effectively. By narrowing my direction, I can channel my energy into what truly matters, what I can do best, maximizing both productivity and impact.
4. The Need for Answers
I always have to find answers to my questions. Only then I can feel confident in my words and actions. Doubt makes me hesitate, so I push myself to seek clear understanding. I recognize that seeking answers efficiently would help me move forward faster.
Sometimes, taking confident action with the best available knowledge, rather than lingering in the unease of continuous searching, allows for greater progress, even in uncertainty.
5. Persistence
I rarely give up. My persistence is one of my greatest strengths. Once I commit to something, I see it through unless a compelling reason or external force prevents me from continuing.
This perseverance has allowed me to accomplish goals that require long-term dedication. However, I also recognize that persistence must be paired with adaptability. Holding on to something that no longer serves me can be counterproductive. I am learning to ensure that I am not just pushing forward, but moving in the right direction.
6. Preference for Experience Over Planning
I prefer learning through experience rather than detailed planning. I find that direct engagement allows me to understand things more deeply and meaningfully. However, experience has taught me the value of planning in reducing risks, saving time, and improving efficiency.
7. Emotional but Rational
I am an emotional person, but I never let my emotions decide important matters. Instead, I rely on my mental strength and logic to make decisions. This trait has helped me navigate challenges with resilience, ensuring that my emotions enrich my experiences rather than cloud my judgment.
PS. A university is always on my list of places to visit when I travel. The photo below was taken at the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
